Community Guidelines

Last Updated: February 2026 | Effective Date: January 2026

Our Community

Enginr.dev is a community for software engineers to share their work, learn from each other, and build in public. We are committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all members. These Community Guidelines outline the standards of behavior we expect from everyone who uses our platform.

By using Enginr.dev, you agree to follow these guidelines. Violations may result in content removal, account suspension, or permanent ban, depending on the severity and frequency of the violation.

What to Post

Enginr.dev is the social network for builders. We encourage content that helps our community learn, grow, and ship great work:

  • Dev logs and technical discussions: Share your build process, code snippets, benchmarks, and engineering deep-dives.
  • Questions and learnings: Ask for help, share what you've learned, and post project updates.
  • Your work: Share your launches, demos, and milestones. Self-promotion is encouraged — that's what Enginr.dev is for.
  • Constructive feedback: Code reviews, technical advice, and thoughtful critique of ideas (not people).

Safety Standards

The safety of our community, especially minors, is our top priority. We have zero tolerance for content or behavior that exploits, endangers, or harms others.

Child Safety

Enginr.dev strictly prohibits any content related to child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE). This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) of any kind, including real, AI-generated, or illustrated content
  • Grooming behavior or any attempts to establish inappropriate relationships with minors
  • Sexualization of minors in any form, including suggestive content or comments
  • Solicitation of sexual content from minors or requests to meet minors for inappropriate purposes
  • Sharing of personal information about minors without parental consent

We report all instances of CSAM and child exploitation to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and cooperate with law enforcement agencies worldwide. For Canadian users, we also report to Cybertip.ca, Canada's national tip line for reporting child sexual exploitation. Accounts involved in such content are immediately and permanently banned.

Violence and Threats

Content that threatens, promotes, or glorifies violence is not allowed. This includes:

  • Threats of physical harm against individuals or groups
  • Content that incites or encourages violence
  • Glorification of violent acts or violent extremism
  • Instructions for creating weapons or explosives

Harassment and Bullying

We do not tolerate harassment, bullying, or intimidation of any kind:

  • Personal attacks, insults, or name-calling
  • Sustained unwanted contact after being asked to stop
  • Coordinated harassment campaigns
  • Doxxing (sharing private information to harass)
  • Encouraging others to harass someone

Prohibited Content

The following types of content are not permitted on Enginr.dev:

Hate Speech and Discrimination

Content that attacks, demeans, or discriminates against individuals or groups based on:

  • Race, ethnicity, or national origin
  • Religion or religious beliefs
  • Gender, gender identity, or sexual orientation
  • Disability or medical condition
  • Age, veteran status, or immigration status

Illegal Content

  • Content that violates any applicable law or regulation
  • Promotion or sale of illegal goods or services
  • Content related to illegal drug use or trafficking
  • Fraud, scams, or deceptive practices

Intellectual Property Violations

  • Copyright infringement (posting code or content you do not have rights to share)
  • Trademark violations
  • Plagiarism without attribution

Malicious Content

  • Malware, viruses, or harmful code designed to damage systems
  • Phishing attempts or credential harvesting
  • Code designed to exploit vulnerabilities maliciously
  • Instructions for hacking into systems without authorization

Spam and Manipulation

Sharing your own projects and launches is encouraged (see What to Post above). Spam refers to abusive behavior patterns:

  • Repetitive or duplicate posts of the same content across communities
  • Bot-generated or automated mass posting
  • Fake engagement (buying followers, likes, coordinated inauthentic activity)
  • Creating multiple accounts to evade bans or manipulate the platform
  • Misleading or deceptive content designed to manipulate users

Adult Content

  • Pornography or sexually explicit content
  • Non-consensual intimate imagery
  • Sexual solicitation

Connect (Dating & Networking)

Our Connect feature enables dating and professional networking between engineers. Connect users must follow all general Community Guidelines above, plus these additional standards specific to interpersonal interactions.

Respectful Interactions

  • Accept "no" gracefully. If someone declines your introduction request or stops responding, respect their decision. Do not send follow-up messages pressuring them to reconsider.
  • No cross-channel harassment. If someone declines or blocks you in Connect, do not contact them through posts, comments, direct messages, or any other Enginr.dev feature.
  • Treat every interaction with respect. Connect is a space for genuine connection — approach others the way you would want to be approached.

Honest Self-Representation

  • Use authentic, recent photos of yourself on your Connect persona. Group photos, celebrity photos, stock images, or heavily altered images are not permitted.
  • Represent yourself honestly on your Connect persona. While your Connect identity is separate from your social profile, you must provide accurate information about your age, gender identity, and other persona details. Misrepresenting your identity ("catfishing") is prohibited.
  • No impersonation. Do not create a Connect persona pretending to be someone else.
  • Contact blocking is available as a privacy feature to exclude your followers and following from Connect discovery. This helps you maintain separation between your social connections and your Connect activity.

Prohibited in Connect

  • Sexual solicitation: Connect is not a platform for soliciting sexual services or explicit content.
  • Commercial activity: Do not use Connect for advertising, recruitment, sales, or any form of commercial solicitation.
  • Inappropriate profile content: Profile photos, headlines, and descriptions must be appropriate. Sexually explicit, violent, or offensive content is not permitted.
  • Exploitation: Any attempt to exploit, coerce, or manipulate other Connect users will result in immediate enforcement action.

Reporting in Connect

You can report any Connect user directly from their profile or introduction request. Reports are reviewed by our Connect Safety team. Reports involving child safety or exploitation (CSAM) are escalated immediately and reported to authorities. For urgent safety concerns, email safety@enginr.dev. See our Safety Policy for additional information about Connect safety practices.

Reporting Violations

We rely on our community to help keep Enginr.dev safe. If you encounter content or behavior that violates these guidelines, please report it immediately.

How to Report

  • In-App Reporting: Tap the ••• menu on any post, comment, or profile and select Report Post to report a violation directly within the app.
  • Email: Send detailed reports to safety@enginr.dev for urgent safety concerns or complex issues.
  • Child Safety Reports: For any content involving the exploitation of minors, email safety@enginr.dev with "URGENT: Child Safety" in the subject line.

What to Include in a Report

  • A description of the violation
  • Link to the content or username of the account
  • Screenshots if applicable
  • Any additional context that may help our review

Report Review Process

Our moderation team reviews all reports, typically within 24 hours. For urgent safety matters involving minors or imminent threats, we prioritize immediate review. All reports are treated confidentially, and we do not disclose the identity of reporters to the reported user.

Enforcement

We take violations of these guidelines seriously. Depending on the nature and severity of the violation, we may take one or more of the following actions:

  • Warning: A notice that the content or behavior violates our guidelines, with a request to stop.
  • Content Removal: Removal of the violating content from the platform.
  • Temporary Suspension: Temporary restriction of account features or access for a defined period.
  • Permanent Ban: Permanent removal of the account from Enginr.dev.
  • Legal Reporting: For illegal content (especially CSAM), we report to appropriate authorities including NCMEC and law enforcement.

Repeat offenders face escalating consequences. Users who are permanently banned may not create new accounts. We reserve the right to take any action we deem necessary to protect our community.

Appeals

If you believe your content was removed or your account was actioned in error, you may submit an appeal by emailing appeals@enginr.dev. Please include:

  • Your username
  • A description of the action taken
  • Why you believe the action was incorrect

Appeals are reviewed by a different moderator than the one who took the original action. We will respond to appeals within 7 days. Note that appeals for CSAM-related bans will not be considered.

Legal Compliance

Enginr.dev complies with all applicable laws and regulations regarding online safety, including:

  • COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act): We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
  • 18 U.S.C. 2258A: We report apparent violations involving CSAM to NCMEC as required by law.
  • Canadian CSAM Reporting: For content involving Canadian users or originating from Canada, we also report to Cybertip.ca, Canada's national tip line.
  • Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA): We respond to valid DMCA takedown notices.
  • International Laws: We cooperate with law enforcement agencies globally on matters of child safety and other serious crimes.
