Safety Policy
Last Updated: February 2026 | Effective Date: February 2026
Our Commitment to Safety
Enginr.dev is committed to providing a safe environment for all users of our Connect dating and networking feature. This Safety Policy describes the measures we take to protect Connect users, how to report safety concerns, and the resources available to you. This policy applies specifically to our Connect feature and supplements our Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.
Age Verification
Connect is available only to users who are 18 years of age or older. During the Connect opt-in process, users must confirm their age and provide their birth year. This age requirement is enforced server-side — users who do not meet the minimum age cannot activate Connect.
Disclosure: Enginr.dev currently uses self-declaration for age verification at the point of opt-in, combined with server-side enforcement based on the birth year provided. We do not currently perform government-issued ID verification or third-party background checks on Connect users. We continuously evaluate our verification practices and may implement additional verification methods in the future.
Code of Conduct
All Connect users must accept a Code of Conduct before activating the feature. The Code of Conduct requires users to:
- Treat all interactions with respect and dignity
- Accept "no" gracefully and not pursue contact after a decline
- Use authentic, recent photos and accurate profile information
- Not use Connect for commercial solicitation or advertising
- Report any behavior that makes them feel unsafe
For the full set of conduct rules, see the Connect (Dating & Networking) section of our Community Guidelines.
Prohibited Conduct
The following behaviors are strictly prohibited in Connect and will result in enforcement action:
- Harassment and unwanted contact: Continued contact after a decline, threatening or intimidating behavior, and cross-channel harassment (using other Enginr.dev features to contact someone who blocked you in Connect).
- Impersonation and fraud: Fake profiles, catfishing, misrepresenting your identity or age, and deceptive behavior of any kind.
- Sexual solicitation: Soliciting sexual services, sending unsolicited explicit content, or engaging in inappropriate sexual conduct.
- Commercial solicitation: Using Connect for advertising, recruitment, sales, or any business activity.
- Exploitation: Any attempt to exploit, coerce, or manipulate another user, including financial exploitation and emotional manipulation.
- Child sexual abuse material (CSAM): Any content or behavior related to the sexual exploitation of minors. This results in immediate permanent ban and reporting to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and law enforcement.
How to Report
If you feel unsafe or encounter behavior that violates our policies, we encourage you to report it immediately. You have several options:
In-App Reporting
You can report any Connect user directly from their profile or from an introduction request. Select the reason that best describes the issue, and optionally provide additional details. You can also block any user at any time — blocking takes effect immediately and is mutual.
For safety concerns that require additional context or urgency, email us at safety@enginr.dev. For reports involving child safety, include "URGENT: Child Safety" in the subject line for immediate prioritization.
CSAM Escalation
Reports involving child sexual abuse material (CSAM) are immediately escalated to our specialized review pipeline. Confirmed cases are reported to NCMEC and, for Canadian users, to Cybertip.ca. We cooperate fully with law enforcement in these matters.
Enforcement Actions
Violations of Connect safety policies are enforced on a graduated escalation model:
- Cooldown (24 hours or 7 days): A temporary restriction limiting your ability to send new introduction requests in Connect.
- Connect Disabled: Your Connect access is revoked while your general Enginr.dev account remains active.
- Account Suspension: Your entire Enginr.dev account is temporarily suspended.
- Permanent Ban: Your Enginr.dev account is permanently terminated.
The severity of the enforcement action depends on the nature, severity, and frequency of the violation. Reports involving child safety (CSAM) or imminent physical danger result in immediate account action and bypass the graduated escalation model.
Persona Privacy and Moderation
Persona Moderation
While your Connect persona is private and separate from your public Enginr.dev profile, Enginr.dev moderators can always view your real identity alongside your persona for safety enforcement. Persona separation does not shield users from moderation. All persona content (display name, photos, bio) is subject to the same moderation standards as other content on the platform.
Incognito Mode and Safety
Users in incognito mode can still be reported and moderated. Incognito mode hides your persona from Connect discovery but does not affect moderation capabilities. Our safety team retains full access to persona data regardless of incognito status.
Contact Blocking
Contact blocking is a privacy feature that excludes your followers and following from Connect discovery. It is not a safety or blocking tool. If you experience harassment or feel unsafe, use the Report and Block features directly — these provide immediate protection and trigger review by our safety team.
Appeals
If you believe an enforcement action was taken in error, you may submit an appeal by emailing appeals@enginr.dev. Include your username, a description of the action taken, and why you believe it was incorrect. Appeals are reviewed by a different team member than the one who took the original action, and we will respond within 7 days.
Note: Bans related to child sexual abuse material (CSAM) are not eligible for appeal.
Notice Practices
When we take enforcement action on your account, we will notify you through:
- In-app notification: A notification within the Enginr.dev app explaining the action taken and the reason.
- Email: An email to your registered email address with details of the enforcement action, the violated policy, and information about how to appeal (if applicable).
We strive to be transparent about our enforcement decisions while protecting the privacy of reporters and other involved parties.
Safety Tips
While we work hard to make Connect safe, your personal safety is also in your hands. Here are some tips for staying safe when meeting people through Connect:
- Meet in public places. For first meetings, choose a well-lit, public location such as a coffee shop, restaurant, or coworking space.
- Tell someone where you're going. Let a friend or family member know your plans, including who you're meeting, where, and when you expect to be back.
- Trust your instincts. If something feels off, it probably is. You are always free to end a conversation or leave a meeting at any time.
- Don't share financial information. Never send money to someone you've met online, and be wary of requests for financial assistance or investment opportunities.
- Protect your personal information. Be cautious about sharing your home address, workplace, or other sensitive details before you've built trust.
- Use the in-app tools. Block and report anyone who makes you feel uncomfortable. These tools exist to protect you.
